Greetings! I am Dayeon Jeon, currently enrolled in the Class of ’20, majoring in IID. My interests span a wide array of creative pursuits including drawing, designing, listening to music, crocheting, gaming, and traveling. Last year, I went on an enriching exchange semester in the United Kingdom, followed by a leave of absence for the subsequent semester.

My intellectual curiosity gravitates towards topics such as accessibility, neurodivergence, generative art, and spirituality. I aim to make a positive impact on the world, be it through artistic endeavors, providing service, or simply leaving a lasting impression on others. The pervasive issues of hate, destruction can seem insurmountable, yet I firmly believe that collective efforts, particularly through design innovation, hold the key to addressing these challenges.

The decision to pursue this course stems from my desire to further my journey towards effecting positive change. Thorough research into both problems and users is paramount for devising effective solutions, especially amidst the evolving landscape shaped by the pandemic and rapid technological advancements. Witnessing the transformative potential of the metaverse, particularly through platforms like Gathertown, has intensified my interest in exploring its possibilities and implications for design.

In recent semesters, my creative focus has centered on emotion and expression, influenced by Professor Cabrera’s seminar on Heidegger’s concept of wonder and boredom. This has led to the creation of projects within my club, DFK Omelet, leveraging tools such as Figma and After Effects to craft platforms for generative art that resonate with users’ emotions. Additionally, in my Culture and Design Trends class, I tackled the issue of inadequate sexual education in Korea by conceptualizing and designing a brand called Teonota, emphasizing frankness and innovation in sexual health communication.

Currently, I am deeply engrossed in motion graphics, recognizing video editing as a powerful medium for conveying messages. My passion for video editing has been cultivated through documenting my travels and refining my skills in After Effects and Premiere Pro.

In embarking on this course, I am eager to engage with like-minded individuals, hone my systemic approach to design, and embrace new experiences. I am grateful for the opportunity and look forward to the journey ahead. Thank you for your attention.
